More than bread...

More than bread...

Welcome to our Bakery Blog, for the full Hen Corner site, see here.
Have you seen that our new book Living the Good Life in the City: A journey to self-sufficiency is now available to pre-order?
The birds and the bees!
If you've been a customer of the Hen Corner Bakery for a while, you'll know that it's not all about hens and it's not all about bread - we are Living the Good Life in the City (doesn't that sound a great title for a book?) and are trying to live as sustainably as possible. So that makes us butchers, bakers and bee candle makers...
Did you know that eggs are a seasonal food? Well traditionally, yes they are, with birds laying most frequently in the spring and summer. Of course, we can find commercially produced eggs in the supermarket all year round due to clever breeding and sometimes tricking the hens into thinking it's summer by keeping lights on after dark in the hen house.
But our chickens are reared without any 'cheating' and are naturally laying loads at the moment, if you'd like to try them, you can order Fresh Eggs here.
The bees are building up their colonies in the hives and whilst this year's honey isn't available yet, we have some lovely local honey available from our bee keeping buddy, Tom.

Did you know that you can order your bakes weeks in advance? Have a look around the site and plan your next basket of bread!

If you haven't ordered before, our whole range can be viewed by collection (e.g. White Bread, Blended Wheats, Sourdough, Special Grains, etc.), and can be ordered directly from our online store.

Don't forget that all our loaves are made with ethically sourced ingredients and everything can be frozen if you don't think you'll eat it all straight away.

Thanks and we hope to see you soon,

Sara
